Aspects to Preserve

While most features of the current system need reform, certain aspects should be preserved.

  • As a representative republic (not a direct democracy), our system makes it appropriate to maintain the use of delegates for the parties’ national conventions.
  • Start the nomination process with a rollout of smaller-state contests.  This maintains the ability for retail politics by a lesser-known candidate of limited funds to overcome larger pocketbooks and higher name recognition.  (Though tempting to consider, a single primary day for all 50 states would guarantee only candidates with an overwhelming combination of money and fame could win.)
  • Have Super Tuesdays – though modified in size for more appropriate impact.
